What kind of a LIFE are you living these days? Are you running yourself into the ground with one chore after the next? Are you doing a thousand things for others with no time for yourself? Is your personal time just “body maintenance” time (grooming, eating, sleeping, exercising) with no time for pleasure or enjoyment?What kinds of FEELINGS do you have about your days? Do you feel unfulfilled, frantic, frustrated, resigned, resentful or just plain “blah”? Have you numbed yourself to your deep-down longings for your life?AN EXCITING LIFE STARTS WITH YOU

Take heart! You can change all that! The good news is that an exciting life starts with YOU. You have the power to create an exciting life for yourself. But it won’t happen if:

 

  • You don’t want an exciting life
  • You don’t value yourself
  • You let others run your life
  • You want to play it safe

 

You can choose to “just get by” and to be merely the “supporting actress” for somebody else’s life. But if you WANT your life to be exciting:

 

  • You can CHOOSE to have an exciting life. You can choose not to settle for less.
  • You can DECIDE to value yourself. You can decide to treat yourself with respect and treasure the one and only life you have.
  • You can PUT YOURSELF IN CHARGE of your own life. You can honor the fact that YOU are the rightful owner of your own life – nobody else. You can stop waiting and start picking exciting goals for yourself. You can list the steps you want to take toward the things that are important to you. And you can adopt the motto, “If it is to be, it is up to me!”
  • You can START DOING things right now that are important and exciting to you. There is nothing to stop you except your own “I can’t” or “I’m afraid” mentality. Tell those negative voices, “I know you’re there, but right now I’m going to focus on my values and my goals!” Everyone experiences doubts and fears, but successful people have a standing order to focus on what really matters for their lives. You can, too. Amaze yourself!

 

HERE’S HOW TO GET STARTED

1. What do you think of when you think of an exciting life? Write these things down on paper. (I think of playing my fiddle or piano, choreographing dances, singing with friends, discussing and solving important issues, conveying life-promoting ideas, hiking and exploring with my husband, and reading books that increase my knowledge and understanding.)

2. Which of the things on your list appeals to you personally? All of the things I wrote above appeal to me. Be sure that you don’t force yourself into something that “sounds exciting” for someone else but not for you. And be sure you don’t force yourself into something just because you’re “good at doing it.” (Even though being an astronaut sounds exciting, it doesn’t appeal to me for my own life. And even though I am good at record-keeping and administrating, those don’t appeal to me either.)

3. Which of these things do you think you can do? Be sure you pick goals that are realistically do-able for you.(I am poor at fiddling and singing, good at choreographing dances for weddings, and good at conveying ideas. My husband loves reading books, restoring mechanical devices, and teaching.)

4. How can I make my living doing things that are exciting to me? Get good at something that is exciting to you so you can earn part or all of your living doing what you love. (I could earn part of my living teaching and choreographing dances for weddings and selling my books and CD program. My husband could record for “Books Out Loud,” restore mechanical devices, and teach pioneering skills, math, and physics.)

Now take yourself through steps 1 – 4 and see what you come up with to make your life exciting! Discover how you can become super-excited about your life – so you can love living your life even more than you already do!
