The cover of the book, Good Harbor, by best selling author Anita Diamant, is what first caught my eye.
Two women are happily running barefoot on one of my favorite beaches in Gloucester, Massachusetts. This was me, when I lived in Manchester by the Sea. I return to this beach and Gloucester lobsters when back on the east coast.
Although Good Harbor isn’t a page turner, I enjoyed the unfolding friendship of the two main characters, Kathleen and Joyce. Maralyn and I share a similar bond.
Some may find the back stories depressing. One or the other is dealing with a difficult teenage daughter, breast cancer, a distant husband, a secret affair, and other challenges.
However, I found the deepening of female friendship in Good Harbor uplifting and optimistic. I plan to read Boston Girl by Anita Diamant next.
