The following comes from Niall McCarthy of Statista. I felt it provides interesting stats for research on writing. I always enjoy the charts from Statista.

The standard 40-hour working week is definitely a myth in Turkey, according to research conducted by the OECD. 43 percent of Turkish employees put in a shift in excess of 50 hours every week. That amounts to approximately 1,855 hours every year, noticeably higher than the OECD average of 1,765. When it comes to gender, 47 percent of men work more than 50 hours per week compared to 33 percent of women. In Mexico, just under 29 percent of employees work more than 50 hours per week, along with 27 percent of South Koreans. The United States has developed a reputation as a nation of workaholics over the past few years, with employees getting a raw deal on vacation and weekend work. Still, only 11.4 percent of Americans put in a shift of more than 50 hours every week, far behind the likes of Turkey and Mexico.Click here for more charts and infographics.
