When M. D. S. Prabu asked me to read and review his book, The Philippines on $40 a Day, I was not prepared to enjoy his adventure as much as I did. Whereas I would choose to stay at more expensive properties, Prabu provides options that are available to all and thus maximize any experience.PHILIPPINES

With Prabu, you experience exotic islands with their hot springs, walled cities, jeepneys, snorkeling, festivals, cities, small villages, wild nightlife and food. Also his book serves as a guide that continues to surprise you.

You experience both highs and the lows, and challenges are not sugarcoated. Instead, you gain insight as to how to work around them.

Following Prabu’s forty-day exploration, you gain greater understanding of Pilipino (Filipino, both accurate) culture, from small villages to the large cities. Because he lists pros and cons, the reader is armed with knowledge of what he may wish to experience or avoid. I enjoyed the attention Prabu spent on details, whether it be food, transportation, lodging, attractions, safety, festivals, and everything. In a sense, it is like a doctorate thesis, except interesting and a great read.

If you have considered traveling to the Philippines, but hesitate, this book is worth reading. I have many Pilipino friends and thought I understood quite a bit. But I learned how much more there is to discover in this region with so many great treasures.
