Case Study: Hucais Boosts High Quality Digital Book Production

Hucais Printing Group is one of the top 10 printing company in China and one of the biggest digital printer in Asia. After the introduction of two Universe Sewing Web-fed last September, another book sewing unit was purchased to further boost productivity of the digital division. Typical applications produced are hard cover higher education and out-of-print books with a typical run length varying from 50 up to 400 books per title. The new ROLL-to-BOOK solution for sewing books directly from the pre-printed roll allows cost-effective digital book production of short to medium runs thanks to “handsfree” workflow and the integration of operations such as unwinding and cutting. This means: less work to load the machines, less paper handling and warehousing between printing and sewing. CHALLENGE To manage the digital book production of short and medium runs in a cost-effective way, integrating the operations of unwinding and cutting of the rolls. SOLUTION After the introduction of two Universe Sewing Web-fed, automatic book folding and sewing units together with Inline, modular and multi-functional back gluing line, another sewing unit was purchased to complete the productivity boost of the digital division.
