I certainly do not buy this quote wholeheartedly. My personal belief is you can achieve success at one thing and then move on to the next in the same field or another. There is always a new challenge around the bend.

So, I like part of the last sentence, “I like a state of continual becoming, with a goal in front…”

To me, it is great to have successes behind me. I remember winning my first international Gold Pyramid for an advertising campaign. With that behind me, I did not stop, but it encouraged me to strive for four more.

Brenda and I have written three books together, we don’t stop but continual for our next goal.

So, when you read quotes or suggestions, this is a perfect example of taking what applies and not using what does not fit you.

“I dread success. To have succeeded is to have finished one’s business on earth, like the male spider, who is killed by the female the moment he has succeeded in courtship. I like a state of continual becoming, with a goal in front and not behind. ” ~George Bernard Shaw, 28 August 1896
